Parks & Playground Accessibility

New playgrounds and playground improvements are designed to provide recreational opportunities for all ages and abilities.  A variety of features are pursued across the City’s park network to enhance inclusivity of all types of disabilities, such as flat transfer points, ramp access, tactical play features, molded/belted swings, and large open space for active or quiet play.

Iowa City is committed to continual improvement of accessibility in our parks, in accordance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act and related guidelines. Each year, accessibility improvements are budgeted for City parks and/or trails, with a goal to achieve maximum ADA compliance for each location.

Brief accessibility notes are provided on each park’s webpage. For further information on a specific park’s accessibility features or to request a reasonable modification, please call the Director of Parks & Recreation at 319-356-5104.
