City of Iowa City administrative offices and other facilities will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, 2026, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
Please note that garbage, compost, and recycling will be collected on Labor Day. See details below.
Airport: The administration office will be closed, but Jet Air (FBO) will be open regular hours.
Animal Care and Adoption Center: Closed.
Garbage, Compost, and Recycling: Will be collected on Labor Day. Residents on the Monday route should have their materials at the curb by 7 a.m.
Landfill and Recycling Center: Closed.
Library and Bookmobile: Closed.
Oakland Cemetery: Office closed.
Parking: City parking ramps will not be cashiered and parking meters will not be enforced.
Parks and Recreation: Administrative offices will be closed on Labor Day.

- Mercer Park Aquatic Center Pool
- 6:15 a.m. to 8 p.m. - open swim
- Robert A. Lee Recreation Center Pool
- 6:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. - open swim
- City Park Pool remains closed due to construction
- Recreation Center hours:
- Robert A. Lee Recreation Center: 6:15 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Mercer Park Aquatic Center & Scanlon Gym: 6:15 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Police: Administration and Records offices will be closed. Patrol will operate normally.
Senior Center: Closed.
Transit: No bus service.
Water: Closed. For a water emergency, call the 24-hour emergency number at 319-356-5166.
Wastewater: Closed. If a wastewater emergency occurs, call the 24-hour emergency number at 319-356-5177.
