A 3% increase in water utility rates and a 5% increase in wastewater utility rates will take effect Wednesday, July 1, 2026, following approval by the Iowa City Council at its May 19 meeting.

The new rates will coincide with the start of the City’s 2027 fiscal year. This change applies to all customers served by the Iowa City Water Division and the Iowa City Wastewater Division, and supports the continued treatment and delivery of safe, reliable water.

The rate adjustment is part of a self-supporting funding model designed to recover the cost of providing water and wastewater services to the community.
