Celebrate National Honor Our LGBT Elders Day at the Iowa City Senior Center
Post Date:05/14/2026 8:21 AMThe Iowa City Senior Center will host a Celebration of National Honor Our LGBT Elders Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2026, in Room 302 at the Senior Center, 28 S. Linn St.
National Honor Our LGBT Elders Day recognizes and celebrates the trailblazing activists, artists, neighbors, and community members whose courage, persistence, creativity, and authenticity have helped shape LGBTQ history and continue to inspire future generations.
Facilitated by Craig Esbeck, the Queer Elders of Iowa City will mark the day with a special program of storytelling, poetry, music, and art. The event will celebrate queer lives, honor those who came before, and reflect on the people and events that shaped an era of remarkable progress and devastating challenges for the LGBTQ community.
