Celebrate Bike to Work Week with breakfast at Chauncey Swan Park on May 11

Post Date:05/04/2026 3:23 PM

To celebrate Bike to Work Week, the City of Iowa City will be serving up breakfast burritos from 7 to 9 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2026, at Chauncey Swan Park.

This event will happen rain or shine, so pedal on over to the park for a "wheelie" great breakfast courtesy of the City’s Climate Action Office, and the Metropolitan Planning Organization of Johnson County (MPOJC).

Grab some breakfast

Burritos for the breakfast are being prepared by Iowa City Free Lunch. Breakfast cookies and coffee will also be served. Bringing reusable mugs or cups from home to fill up is encouraged and celebrated. Be sure to pick up some free trail maps and sunglasses, too!

Learn how to mount your bike onto a Transit bus

While at the event, participants can also practice loading and unloading their bikes on a demo rack attached to the Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp, meant to give cyclists a feel for using the bike racks mounted to city buses.

The MPOJC will be present at the event to share long-term planning information and the latest on upcoming new bicycle facilities.

Register your bike

Participants can register their bikes with the Iowa City Police Department. Doing so can help keep your bike safe and assist police in locating your bike should it go missing. There is no charge to register bicycles in Iowa City.

This year, Bike to Work Week takes place from May 11 through 17 as part of May’s National Bike Month. Commuting to work has seen an increase in popularity over the years. Not only does bicycling provide a healthy and fun way to travel, but it also saves money and provides a way to commute.
