The City of Iowa City has officially proclaimed Tuesday, March 31, 2026, as Transgender Day of Visibility, recognizing and celebrating the contributions, resilience, and identities of transgender and nonbinary individuals in the community.
The proclamation affirms Iowa City’s ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming environment for people of all gender identities and expressions.
Transgender Day of Visibility is observed annually to honor the lives and achievements of transgender people while raising awareness about the discrimination and barriers they continue to face. In recognition of this observance, the Transgender Pride Flag will be flown at City Hall from Monday, March 30 through Friday, April 3.
Through this proclamation, the City encourages residents to support transgender community members, promote understanding, and stand against discrimination in all forms. Iowa City continues to prioritize policies and initiatives that advance equity, protect human rights, and ensure that all residents can live openly and authentically.
