Iowa City Landfill to close for maintenance April 6

On Monday, April 6, 2026, the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center will be closed for scale maintenance. 

Many services offered at the landfill are available in other locations throughout Johnson County. 

  • Most communities in Johnson County have curbside trash and recycling collection for residents. Contact your community for more information about these services.
  • Many communities have programs for items such as electronics, appliances, and bulky items that are banned and/or do not fit in the carts provided. Please contact your community for more information about these services.
  • Please visit icgov.org/landfill for other location options for many materials.
  • Dumpster services are available from multiple waste and recycling haulers in the community.
