Update: Arrests made in Aug. 3, 2025, Iowa City shooting

As a result of the ongoing investigation into the Aug. 3, 2025, shooting in the 600 Block of East Court Street, Iowa City Police have made two arrests.

Moayed E. Elsid, 17, of Iowa City faces charges of:

Additionally, a second juvenile faces one count of Possession of a Firearm as a Felon. Because that charge is not a forcible felony, the juvenile will not be identified.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

This case remains under investigation and additional arrests are anticipated.

At 2:55 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 3, 2025, Iowa City Police responded to the 600 Block of East Court Street for a report of a shooting.

Responding officers discovered evidence of a shooting. In the hours following the shooting, four gunshot wound victims were identified. One victim was transported from the scene via Johnson County Ambulance to an area hospital where they received treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The three additional victims transported themselves to hospitals in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Iowa City Police were assisted by the Iowa City Fire Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, Johnson County Sheriff's Office, the Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center, the University of Iowa Department of Campus Safety, and the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
