ICSC releases September-October program guide

Post Date:08/25/2025 10:30 AM

The Iowa City Senior Center (ICSC) is excited to announce its line-up of new classes and events for this fall, detailed in our September-October 2025 Program Guide.

Check out the new program guide online at icgov.org/senior or pick up a printed copy at the Senior Center or one of our local public libraries in Iowa City, Coralville, or North Liberty.

September is National Senior Center Month, a time to recognize the vital role senior centers play in enhancing the lives of older adults and strengthening communities. This year’s theme, Powering Possibilities: Flip the Script, encourages us to challenge outdated stereotypes about aging and elevate the positive contributions of older adults and the centers that serve them.

Many of ICSC's program offerings this fall are made possible through collaborations with community partners, such as 100 Grannies for a Livable Future, Iowa City Bike Library, FilmScene, AARP, Johnson County Conservation, Pickleball Johnson County, Johnson County United Nations Association, TRAIL of Johnson County, Iowa City Foreign Relations Council, and many more!

Some special program highlights this fall include:

Grand Babies Story Time with Little Ones

This program brings together babies, parents, nannies, and older adults for stories, songs, and interactive activities. Hosted by the Senior Center in partnership with the Iowa City Public Library, this free program fosters early literacy, social connections, and a sense of belonging across generations. Wednesdays, Sep. 17 & Oct. 15, at 9 a.m.

Soul Train Block Party

Get ready to groove under the summer sky! Join us on Linn Street just outside of the Senior Center to dance to the beats of DJ Storm, enjoy Soul Train dance lines, grab a bite to eat at a local food truck, and snap photos at the photo booth. Admission: $10 suggested donation or non-perishable food items to benefit the ICSC sharing pantry. Saturday, Sep. 20, from 6-9 p.m.

2025 ICSC Pickleball Jamboree

This all-ages event features pickleball clinics with tournaments following at all skill levels: beginner, novice, intermediate, and advanced. Never played pickleball, but want to check it out? We’ll have lessons for first timers! Tickets are $35 and include clinic and tournament entry! All proceeds benefit Friends of ICSC. Saturday, Oct. 4, doors open at 9 a.m.

Dedicated to helping community members stay active, curious, and connected as they age, the Iowa City Senior Center offers something for everyone, whether it's a nature hike, foreign language class, film discussion, caregiver support group, or a street dance!
