Beginning Monday, July 28, 2025, through Friday, Aug. 1, the 13-South Gilbert route will detour due to the closure of McCollister Boulevard from Gilbert Street to Old Highway 218. McCollister Bridge will be closed for pavement repairs.

Detour details

• Outbound 13-South Gilbert bus will travel from Gilbert Street to Highway 6 to Riverside Drive to Riverside Drive frontage road.
• Inbound 13-South Gilbert bus will travel from Riverside Drive frontage road to Riverside Drive to Highway 6 to Gilbert Street.

Because Iowa City Transit cannot serve South Gilbert Street south of Highway 6 during the closure, shuttle service will be provided at regularly scheduled times by Neighborhood Transportation Service (NTS) and Horizons, using smaller yellow, white, and blue buses.

This shuttle will serve passengers using the inbound and outbound 13-South Gilbert stops along Gilbert Street between Highway 6 and McCollister Boulevard. It will provide express service to the Downtown Transit Interchange, with return trips to South Gilbert Street, south of Highway 6.

Riders with destinations north of Highway 6 should continue to take Iowa City Transit's 13 - South Gilbert route from the Downtown Transit Interchange.

Seven stops will be serviced by NTS/Horizons during the road closure:

• #7025 Gilbert Street at Hills Bank
• #7024 Gilbert Street at Stevens Drive
• #7447 Gilbert Street at Southgate Avenue
• #7448 Gilbert Street at Napoleon Lane
• #8053 South Gilbert Street at Cherry Avenue
• #8054 Gilbert Street at Southgate Avenue
• #7428 Gilbert Street at Stevens Drive

Five stops will not be serviced during this detour:

• #7452 McCollister Blvd at S. Gilbert Street
• #8052 S. Gilbert Street at Iowa River Trail 
• #7449 S. Gilbert Street at McCollister Blvd
• #8023 Iowa River Mobile Home Community 
• #8356 McCollister Blvd at Riverside Drive 

A temporary stop will be established to provide service to the Iowa River Mobile Home Community and surrounding area:

• Located 1000 feet to the north of stop #8023 near the intersection of Old Highway 218 and South Riverside Drive. 

A temporary stop will be established to provide service to the #8052 South Gilbert stop at the Iowa River.

• Located across the street at the intersection of Napoleon Lane and Gilbert Street.
