The First Avenue entrance to SE Junior High School will close Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, as crews repair pavement in the area.
The entrance will reopen by the first day of school on Wednesday, Aug. 23. For the time being, drivers should use the school entrance from Bradford Drive. Traffic will not be impacted.
Beginning Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, S. Scott Boulevard will be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic between Court Street and Muscatine Avenue. This lane reduction is necessary to facilitate pavement repair. It is anticipated the work will be completed by Monday, Aug. 21.
The landfill entrance, Hebl Avenue SW, will be limited to one-way traffic beginning Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017 to accommodate road improvements. Customers should be prepared for delays.
IWV Road, the extension of Melrose Avenue, continues to be closed just west of the landfill entrance for road improvements. The landfill entrance is accessible only from the east, coming from Iowa City.
On Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, asphalt resurfacing work and pavement patching will begin on Sheridan Ave. from Summit Street to Seventh Avenue. This project will also include replacement of curbs and curb ramps at intersections to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
Various lane reductions will occur during the project; however access will be maintained for neighborhood residents, emergency vehicles and service vehicles. Rerouting of pedestrian traffic at intersections may be necessary as curb ramp work is completed. Normal traffic on Sheridan Ave. is expected to resume by Monday, Sept. 11.
Drivers should be aware of this work and allow extra travel time, or seek an alternate route during this project. Always use caution when traveling through construction areas.
