Crews will remove snow in Downtown Iowa City overnight Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, beginning at 2 a.m. Vehicles parked in tow-away zones will be removed.
Towing will impact Prentiss Street to Market Street, Madison Street to Gilbert Street, as well as N. Clinton Street from Market Street to Church Street. The parking in these areas are metered spots, which do not permit parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Follow all posted parking signs to prevent your vehicle from being towed.
Vehicles can be moved to a Downtown Parking ramp, or to on-street parking spaces outside of the area. Be sure to follow all posted signs.
If your vehicle is towed, contact the Iowa City Police Department at 319-356-5275. Do not call 911.
The Iowa City Streets Division will begin snow removal operations to enhance public safety. During this time, on-street parking will be prohibited in certain areas so that snow plows can access the full width of the street. Vehicles that are not moved will be towed. “No parking due to maintenance” signs will be posted at least 48 hours in advance of any work to alert vehicle owners to move their cars. If you are a University student that normally parks in one of these areas, be aware and plan accordingly so that your vehicle is not towed.
The following snow removal schedule has been provided for Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019 and Friday, Feb. 22, 2019. People who park along these routes should make sure to move their vehicles prior to the start of clean-up:
Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019 - snow removal begins at 7 a.m.
Jefferson Street, from Gilbert Street to Evans Street (south side only)
Iowa Avenue, from Muscatine Avenue to Van Buren Street (south side only)
Washington Street, from Pearl Street to Van Buren Street (south side only)
College Street, from Van Buren Street to Summit Street (south side only)
Friday, Feb. 22, 2019 - snow removal begins at 7 a.m.
Iowa Avenue, from Van Buren Street to Muscatine Avenue (north side only)
Washington Street, from Van Buren Street to Muscatine Avenue (north side only)
College Street, from Summit Street to Van Buren Street (north side only)
City ordinance requires vehicles that are parked on the street to be moved every 48 hours, regardless of snow removal or other work. Cars that are not moved are considered “street storage” and may be ticketed and towed.
For more information on the snow removal schedule, call the Streets office at 319-356-5181.
