The train at City Park, 200 Park Road, is closed due to needed repairs. The train derailed Friday afternoon, causing it to lose a wheel and will require a welder to repair it. This is the second time this has happened in a month. An update will be communicated when available.
Iowa City Parks and Recreation is offering free amusement park rides in August and September to mark the rides’ final season. Maintaining the aging equipment is no longer viable. As such, the rides will close permanently on Sept. 23, at the end of the 2018 season. As an alternative to the rides, the City has planned the addition of a large Adventure playground scheduled for construction in late spring/early summer 2019.
The City Park amusement rides are currently open 1-7 p.m. daily through Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018. After Aug. 20, rides are open from 1-6 p.m. on weekends only through Sunday, Sept. 23.
Pool hours at City Park Pool, 200 Park Road, will be reduced beginning Monday, Aug. 20, 2018, with the outdoor summer swim season ending on Friday, Sept. 7.
Weather permitting, on Monday, June 25, 2018, street repairs and resurfacing will begin on Burlington Street between Van Buren Street and Summit Street; Johnson Street between Burlington Street and Bowery Street; and Court Street between Johnson Street and Dodge Street. During this work, local access and emergency vehicles will be maintained, but lane reductions will occur. It is anticipated that normal traffic will resume on Burlington Street, Johnson Street, and Court Street by Sept. 1, 2018.
Drivers should take note of this closure and use another route. As always, be cautious when traveling in construction areas.
