Police Union Personnel Benefits
Medical Insurance
The City provides medical insurance administered by Wellmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Iowa. The plan is a 90%/10% plan with a maximum annual out-of-pocket expense of $500 per contract. The City pays the full premium for single coverage; employees contribute $60.00/month for family coverage.
Dental Insurance
The City provides dental insurance administered by Delta Dental of Iowa. The City provides single coverage at no cost to employees; family coverage is available.
Life Insurance
Upon date of employment, the City provides life insurance coverage at no cost to employees in an amount equal to their annual salary rounded to the next highest thousand dollars.
Optional Dependent Life Insurance
Dependent life insurance is available to all permanent employees. If an employee selects coverage, the total monthly cost is $1.68. The amount of coverage is $5,000 per dependent.
Supplemental Life Insurance
Supplemental life insurance is available to all permanent employees. Employees may purchase coverage for themselves and their spouse; coverage for dependent children is also available.
Deferred Compensation
All permanent employees are eligible to participate in a 457 deferred compensation plan in which they may specify into which investment fund/account deposits are made. Employee contribution only.
Sick Leave
Employees accrue one (1) day of sick leave per month and may accumulate sick leave up to a maximum of 1,440 hours. Sick leave is prorated for part-time employees.

Holidays
Employees receive ninety-six (96) hours of holiday credit annually. An additional four hours of holiday credit is accrued if an employee works a full shift on a holiday. If an employee works other than a full shift on a holiday, the holiday credit will be prorated. Holiday hours may not be carried over from one benefit year to another.
Longevity Pay
Based on length of service on December 1 of each year, longevity will be paid by separate check issued in November as follows:

Retirement
All Police personnel are required to contribute to the Police Pension fund at a rate of 9.4% of their base salary. The City's contribution rate is 17.0% of the employee's base salary. Employees are entitled to full retirement benefits when they have served twenty-two (22) years and have reached the age of fifty-five (55). Employees must serve at least (15) years and reach age fifty-five to receive ordinary benefits. Temporary disability benefits for absences due to work-related illness or injuries are available through MFPRSI.
Uniform Allowance and Cleaning
Upon submission of receipts by a plain clothes officer, the City will reimburse the officer up to $700 per year of assignment and the City will pay for cleaning of uniforms or plain clothes officer's clothing and shoes/boots up to a total annual allowance of $175 per officer.
Shift Differential
Employees who work the 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. shift on a regular basis receive thirty (30) cents per hour in addition to their normal wage for all hours worked from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Employees who work the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift on a regular basis shall receive forty-five (45) cents per hour in addition to their normal wage for all hours worked from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Flex Compensation
Flex Compensation allows employees to use pre-tax wages to pay a variety of expenses including eligible insurance premiums, up to $5,000 in eligible medical care expenses, and up to $5,000 in eligible dependent care expenses.
Wellness
The City offers employees a fitness/work-out room located in the City Hall. Other fitness/wellness activities are provided annually.
EAP
The Employee Assistance Program assists employees and their dependents in dealing with personal problems or concerns. This is a confidential service provided through Synchrony at no cost to the employee.
