How to Communicate with City Council Members

Council Members do not have set hours at the City Hall. Because of that, residents are welcome to call them at their listed phone number(s). If they are unavailable, all Council Members have an answering machine.

By E-mail
All correspondence addressed to the entire City Council becomes a permanent public record, and is archived on the City website. To send an e-mail to Council, use the following link: council@iowa-city.org. The sender must include their full name. Address is optional. Email will be distributed to all seven Council Members on their next printed Formal Agenda Consent Calendar. However, if your email pertains to an current agenda item and was received after the agenda was printed but before the meeting, it will be distributed to Council Members at the meeting. If your correspondence is a cc to the Council, it will be included in their next Thursday Information Packet.

By Mail

Washington Street, Iowa City, IA 52240. The sender must include their full name. Address is optional. Letters will be distributed to all seven Council Members on their next printed Formal Agenda Consent Calendar. However, if your letter pertains to an current agenda item and was received after the agenda was printed but before the meeting, it will be distributed to Council Members at the meeting. If your correspondence is a cc to the Council, it will be included in their next Thursday Information Packet.

By Fax
All correspondence addressed to the entire City Council becomes a permanent public record, and is archived on the City website. Fax to: Council Members at 356-5497. The sender must include their full name. Address is optional. Faxes will be distributed to all seven Council Members on their next printed Formal Agenda Consent Calendar. However, if your letter pertains to an current agenda item and was received after the agenda was printed but before the meeting, it will be distributed to Council Members at the meeting. If your correspondence is a cc to the Council, it will be included in their next Thursday Information Packet.

In Person at a Council Meeting
Residents are welcome to address Council at their Formal Meetings. Any item may be discussed during Public Discussion. Agenda items may be discussed as items appear. Comments should be limited to five minutes. No preregistration is required.
