Iowa Sculptor's Showcase

Dorothy by Justine Zimmer
Dorothy by Justine Zimmer was part of the Iowa Sculptor Showcase and then purchased by the Iowa City Public Art Program. It is now located in the Pedestrian Mall just off of Washington Street.

The Iowa Sculptor's Showcase offers an exceptional opportunity for talented Iowa sculptors. Every year, the City of Iowa City's Public Art Advisory Committee announces a call to select a work for display on the "Iowa Artist's Showcase Pad" located near the Weatherdance fountain in Downtown Iowa City's Pedestrian Mall. Every June, a new sculpture is unveiled coinciding with the opening of the Iowa Arts Festival.

The artwork must be safe, maintenance-free, and suitable to the outdoor environment of downtown Iowa City. In addition, the sculpture must be able to be secured to the four-foot by four-foot square cement pad.

The Process

Each year, the Iowa City Public Art Advisory Committee invites Iowa artists to make submissions with the following enclosures:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • A biographical paragraph
  • An artist's statement
  • Labeled sculpture images
