It is our intent to provide those who have a concern with the Iowa City Police Department a timely, fair, and appropriate response. All concerns are investigated but, if you wish to receive follow-up, you will need to provide your name and contact information.
- Speak with a Police Watch Commander.
Police Watch Commanders directly supervise all field officers assigned to a specific timeframe. They will obtain information from the officer(s) involved to resolve the concern. Offices are at the Police Department, 410 E. Washington Street.

Police Captains serve as Division Commanders. They will work with the Watch Commander and officer(s) involved to resolve the concern. Offices are at the Police Department, 410 E. Washington Street.Captain Jim Steffen is the Police Captain in charge of the Administrative Services Division of the Iowa City Police Department. The Administrative Services Division consists of the Emergency Communications Center, Police Records, Budgets and purchasing, Animal Control and Community Relations. - Captain Rick Wyss is the Police Captain in charge of the Field Operations Division of the Iowa City Police Department. The Field Operations Division includes the uniform patrol, criminal investigations, street crimes unit and narcotics investigations. The City Manager functions as the chief administrative officer of the City. In that capacity, the Manager employs and supervises all department directors, including the Police Chief. The City Manager can be reached at 319-356-5010. The City Manager will work with Police staff to help resolve any concern. The Manager's office is at the City Hall, 410 E. The Police Citizens Review Board reviews investigations of allegations of misconduct lodged against police officers, conducts further investigation of the complaint when the Board deems it necessary, and issues a public report which explains why and the extent to which the complaint was sustained or not sustained.
