Terry Trueblood Recreation Area is a one time sand and gravel quarry along the Iowa River at the south edge of Iowa City. The lake itself has about 95.5 acres of surface area and the total site is approximately 207 acres, made up of the following:

  • Original purchase from S&J Materials – 158 acres
  • Purchase riverfront property in 2007 - 30 acres
  • 2010 purchase of additional riverfront – 19 acres

This property is being purchased for park and recreation development by the City. In addition, long range planning calls for the extension of Sycamore Street across the south edge of Terry Trueblood Recreation Area to ultimately cross the river and connect to Mormon Trek. As part of this process, Snyder & Associates was retained by the City to complete the park programming and updates to the construction costs and project phasing. The following pages present a graphic summary of this planning process.
